1. EDITORIAL POLICY — The publisher (St Cuthbert Press Ltd) and the editor of the journal follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals. Upon submitting a manuscript to Acta Studiorum Medicorum et Biomedicorum, all authors must be in complete agreement regarding its content and must ensure that the manuscript conforms to all applicable aspects of the editorial policy outlined in this webpage.
1.1. Reporting Studies on Humans — Manuscripts aiming to be published as case reports should be prepared based on the 2013 CARE Checklist. Manuscripts describing parallel group randomised trials and aiming to be published as research reports in this journal should be prepared in accordance with the CONSORT 2025 Statement, while the STROBE Statement should be followed in the case of research report manuscripts describing cohort, case-control, or cross-sectional studies. In all cases, studies on humans must adhere to international and national regulations, and must be in agreement with the Declaration of Helsinki or any other relevant set of ethical principles. Manuscripts describing such studies should provide a clear declaration of the obtaining of informed consent by all human subjects / patients studied.
1.2. Reporting Studies on Animals — Manuscripts communicating the results of studies conducted on animals and aiming to be published as research reports in this journal should be prepared in accordance with the Animal Research: Reporting of In Vivo Experiments (ARRIVE) Guidelines 2.0.
1.3. Declarations — Upon submission of a manuscript to the journal, the corresponding author is required to declare: (i) that the manuscript has been prepared based on the journal’s guidelines, that the authors’ details are accurate, and that all data and claims presented in the manuscript are – to the best of his / her knowledge and belief – accurate and truthful, (ii) that he / she has secured the consent of all of his / her co-authors in acting as a corresponding author, as well as their approval for submitting the manuscript, in its current form, to the journal Acta Studiorum Medicorum et Biomedicorum, (iii) that he / she understands that the unacknowledged use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process of the manuscript is against the journal’s policy, and could lead to its rejection or the retraction of its published version, (iv) that the manuscript has not been published – in part or in full – before, nor is submitted for publication elsewhere, and (v) that the manuscript will not be submitted for publication elsewhere until the editorial process is complete. Upon acceptance of any manuscript for publication in this journal, the corresponding author is required to confirm the aforementioned declarations through a signed manuscript acceptance form; the latter is signed by all authors, and secures their consent for the manuscript to be published in the journal in its final form.
1.4. Acknowledgments — This is a mandatory section for all articles. In this section, authors should provide a clearly-written description or expression of gratitude for any help and / or funding received from individuals and / or institutions.
1.5. Conflict of Interest Statement — This is a mandatory section for all articles. All possible conflicts of interest should be declared by all authors in this section. Failure to do so could result in the rejection of the manuscript or the retraction of the published article in question. If no conflicts of interest exist, the authors are required to write “None to declare.” in this section.
1.6. Data Availability Statement — Manuscript authors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the FAIR principles, regarding the findability (F), accessibility (A), interoperability (I), and reuse (R) of digital assets, and to adhere to them, if applicable. To this end, manuscript authors should provide a statement outlining where the data that were generated by their study may be found. If public datasets are included in the manuscript’s study, the authors must include the following information in a subsection under the “Methodology” section of the manuscript entitled “Data availability statement”: the accession numbers of the datasets, the names of the repositories in which they can be found, and direct URLs for these datasets. Authors who are unable to share their data must disclose this and justify why their data are unavailable. Suitable repositories can be found at the Registry of Research Data Repositories.
1.7. Peer Review Confidentiality — The publisher and the editor of the journal treat all manuscripts submitted to Acta Studiorum Medicorum et Biomedicorum in confidence and in accordance with the Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers of COPE. Reviewers are required to respect the confidentiality of the peer review process and to not reveal any detail of a manuscript or of its peer review to anyone, either during or after the conclusion of the peer review process.
1.8. Misconduct — Data falsification, duplicate publication, plagiarism, image manipulation, unjustified changes in authorship, or a breach of confidentiality of the peer review process; all constitute misconduct. When misconduct by authors or reviewers is suspected, the publisher takes action and launches a preliminary investigation based on the guidance dictated by COPE and the ICMJE. If the involved parties fail to respond to the publisher in a satisfactory manner, then an appropriate authority is asked to further investigate the misconduct. In cases where a misconduct is proven beyond all reasonable doubt, the published article is retracted. Otherwise, the publisher undertakes reasonable attempts to obtain a resolution and to correct the record, or archives the misconduct investigation.
1.9. Appeals and Complaints — Appeals and complaints regarding the decisions of the editor can be addressed to the publisher via email and should be justified. The publisher will examine such appeals and complaints confidentially, but might seek the opinion of a number of members of the journal’s editorial board regarding any wrongdoing or omission identified in the decisions in question before allowing for a re-assessment (through peer review) of the involved manuscripts.
1.10. Publishing articles (co)-authored by the editor — Acta Studiorum Medicorum et Biomedicorum allows its editor to submit manuscripts (other than those intended for editorials) that he has (co-)authored for peer review and publication in the journal; however, in such cases, the peer review process is handled independently by a member of the editorial board, while the editor recuses himself from any editorial decision-making regarding such manuscripts.
2. OPEN-ACCESS AND COPYRIGHT POLICY — All journal articles (appearing in issue pages numbered using Arabic numerals) are published as open-access articles and are distributed under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, thereby permitting their use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. The copyright of each of the journal’s articles is retained by the respective author(s) under the terms and conditions of the CC BY 4.0 license. Unless otherwise stated, the copyright of all other elements of the journal found online and in-print (including but not limited to the journal’s name, the journal’s issue covers, and the paratextual content of the journal’s issue pages numbered using Roman numerals) is retained by the publisher.
3. PRIVACY POLICY — The publisher is the exclusive administrator of this website and is responsible for the processing of the personal data that are submitted through its portal and via email, in accordance with the applicable UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). 4. REVENUE SOURCE, ADVERTISING, AND DIRECT MARKETING POLICY — The publisher’s revenue sources related to the publication of this journal are (i) the article processing charges paid by the authors of the manuscripts that are accepted for publication and (ii) the subscription fees charged for the shipment of printed issues of the title to individuals and institutions. The publisher does not receive any institutional or organisational funding or support. The publisher does not receive any revenue from any sort of advertisement, whether online or in print. All direct marketing activities related to this journal are conducted by the publisher in the most appropriate, well-targeted, and unobstructed manner, with an accurate representation of the journal’s indexing, metrics, and scope.
